Unlock Password Protected Folders & Files from Folder Lock.

We lock some important files and folders with folder-protecting software, such as Folder Lock, because we don’t want anyone to see our personal, sensitive information. Folder Lock hides our private files and folders, protecting our privacy, and only we can open the secure folder by unlocking the password. In the previous version of Folder Guard, we could easily unlock all files and folders in Windows Safe Mode when we had forgotten the password.

Now, Folder Guard has more advanced security features, making it excellent folder encryption software. However, what do we do if we forget the password? There are many tricks available on the internet, but they do not work with the latest Folder Lock. So, how do we unlock files/folders from Folder Lock software if we have forgotten the Folder Lock password?

Here, I’m sharing a simple process with which you can easily disable Folder Guard folder protection and retrieve your files. However, for this, you’ll need to restart your PC in Safe Mode.

Start Windows in Safe Boot Mode.

  • Press the Windows + R key together (or type RUN in the Start menu search box).
  • The “Run” Dialog box will appear.
  • Type “MSCONFIG” in the “RUN” dialog box.
  • The System Configuration dialog box will appear. Click on the “Boot” tab.
  • Tick the “Safe Boot” checkbox with the minimal radio button.
  • Click on “OK”.
  • Another dialog box will appear, asking you to restart Windows in safe mode.
  • Click on “Restart” to restart Windows in Safe mode.

After restarting in Safe Mode follow these steps:

  1. Run the original setup installation of Folder-Lock software. If you don’t have the installation software for Folder-Lock, download it: Click here to download Folder-Lock.
  2. After the installation of Folder Guard, don’t click on the “Finish” button. Otherwise, it will ask to restart Windows, and if you do so, Folder Lock will lock the folder/file again. Leave the box as it is.
  3. Now, go to the file/folder location where your folder is locked. You will see your locked folder, but when you try to open it, it won’t open because folder/file access permission is denied. Now, you’ll need to remove folder access permission.

How to Remove Folder Access Permission?

Right-click on the file/folder & choose Properties option from the context menu. After this, follow these point:

  1. In the File/Folder Properties dialog box, click on the Security tab.
  2. In Security, click on the “Edit” button.
  3. Now you will see Group or user names box, the usernames are SYSTEM, Your Name, Administrator etc.
  4. In the Group or user names box, select the first name. You will see a Deny checkbox list (Full control, Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, Write, etc.) in Permission for “username.” Untick all Deny checkboxes. Repeat the process for all other usernames.
  5. Click on “OK”.

Sometimes, Windows may ask you to verify; then, click on “Yes” to change the folder permission.

That’s it! You have successfully stopped folder password protection, and now you can open the password-protected folder, cut/copy the content, and paste it to another place or folder.

This method has worked for me. Please let me know if it works for you.

    i click in the security column the is permission the column i have click tick in DENY.

  4. My phone’s screen was broken, so cudnt unlock and save the files for future use. So without thinking much, I connected the phone to my pc and transferred the locked files to my pc. and i disposed my old phone. I thought once I install folder lock on the new phone, will transfer these files and will be able to open from my new phone.
    But now, i can see the icons for the photos, but cannot open in my new phone. Please let me know, what can I do about this.

  15. I had no administrators. How can I open my folder. I downloaded the folder lock and put it in my folder. After installing it I locked my folder and I can’t learn and practice from it. plzz help me. my folder had important files and documents. it writes unable to access new owner on Manish, is there any way to get access to my folder??     The folder lock stops working at the safe mode,
    I need to access one locker the password stops working for this locker, other lockers with other passwords still work.
